5 Hour Energy Review – Is it Keto Friendly?

After waking up, you might find yourself stumbling over to the kitchen to start brewing that morning pot of coffee.

But sometimes that cup of joe is not everyone’s go-to beverage in the morning.

There can be many reasons behind this like allergy, too acidic, or as simple as taste.

But even though coffee might not sit well with you, that doesn’t mean you need to have a dreadful morning.

That’s why it’s nice to have an energy alternative on hand.

I use to drink coffee all the time but recently switched to the 5-hour energy shots.

Are these little energy shots keto-friendly? Let’s find out!

What are the Ingredients?

How Does 5 Hour Energy Taste?

I personally love the taste of these energy shots and since there are many choices to choose from, you’ll never get bored.

5-hour energy comes in 12 different flavors.

Regular 5-hour Energy

  • Grape
  • Berry
  • Pomegranate
  • Citrus Lime
  • Orange
  • Pink lemonade

Extra Strength

  • Grape
  • Berry
  • Blue Raspberry
  • Cool Mint Lemonade
  • Peach Mango
  • Sour Apple
  • Strawberry Watermelon

 Decaf

  • Citrus

My favorite flavor is grape. It kind of tastes like an unfrozen freezie.

This energy shot also contains no sugar and no calories which fits the keto macros.

They use sucralose as the sweetener which in small moderations is keto friendly.

How Do You Consume 5-hour Energy?

You can take the whole bottle in one shot for a full burst of energy or take half the bottle for a slight edge.

Every morning on my way to work, I’ll lightly sip on these.

Sometimes I end up finishing the bottle by 12 pm which gives me nice steady energy all morning.

And I don’t feel the need to drink anymore after, as the effect coffee had on me.

What are the Benefits of 5-hour Energy?

Filled with key vitamins and nutrients, 5-hour energy can boost mental clarity and focus while giving you a non-jitter type of energy.

This energy booster consists of a variety of vitamins and an energy blend for a complete physical and mental enhancement.

Here are the vitamins:

5 Hour Energy Benefits
Vitamin B12

  • Helps in the production of amino acids and processing of carbs.

Vitamin B6

  • Plays an important role in the creation of DNA. Also plays a role in the production of amino acids.

Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)

  • Helps the body produce and maintain new cells in our bodies. Plays a vital role in red blood cell formation. Also helps maintain heart health.

Niacin (Vitamin B3)

  • Aids in converting nutrients into energy. Also known for boosting brain health and improving skin function.

The Energy blend consists of the following:

Tyrosine

  • This amino acid creates brain chemicals that help nerve cells communicate. Also known to elevate mood and increase cognitive abilities.

Citicoline

  • Plays a role in neurotransmission and can help support brain function.

Taurine

  • Vital for proper function of minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Also can boost the action of insulin which can improve glucose tolerance.

Phenylalanine

  • This essential amino acid enhances alertness and can treat depression.

Malic Acid

  • Used to improve physical performance, malic acid can increase exercise endurance and help with muscle recovery.

Glucuronolactone

  • Produced by the metabolization of glucose in the liver, this naturally occurring substance is known for removing harmful substances and toxins from the body while giving a small energy boost.

Caffeine

  • The regular 5-hour energy contains 200mg of caffeine per bottle (1.93 fl oz). The extra strength contains 230mg per bottle (1.93 fl oz) while the decaf flavor contains about as much caffeine as a half cup of decaffeinated coffee. Caffeine provides a wide range of benefits from improving alertness and focus while reducing the risks of certain cancers.

Does 5-hour Energy Contain Side Effects?

The main side effect of these would be the caffeine content.

If it’s your first time trying these, its best to drink half the bottle to see how well you react.

If any out of the ordinary symptoms arise, it is best to avoid completely.

People who are sensitive to caffeine, children, and those pregnant should not consume this beverage.

Is 5-hour Energy Keto-Friendly?

With no sugar and zero calories, the macros line up as being keto friendly. With the amount of caffeine in 1 bottle, I recommend only having 1 per day.

So if your keto diet is down to a tee, implementing one of these to your daily diet shouldn’t knock you out of ketosis. Just don’t overdo it.
